Understanding the contraindications of Shalabhasana is essential before practicing this strengthening yoga posture. Shalabhasana should be avoided by individuals suffering from slipped disc, sciatica, severe lower back pain, or spinal injuries, as the pose places strong pressure on the lumbar region. People with hernia, peptic ulcers, abdominal inflammation, or recent abdominal surgery should also refrain from practicing it due to compression of the abdomen. The contraindications of Shalabhasana extend to pregnant women, since the posture can strain the uterus and lower back. Additionally, those with heart problems, high blood pressure, or neck injuries should practice only under the supervision of a qualified yoga teacher to prevent complications.
